App store Statistic

May 11, 2012

Did you know… that the app store is about to reach 25 billion downloads. Did you know… that 1 billion of the people in the world don’t get enough food to live, and all of those apps being downloaded is about 25 to 50 billion dollars and that could make a huge difference in peoples lives by using that money for others.

I use 48,230 gallons a year. There are ways to conserve even if you have a “Eco friendly” appliance. Here are a few ways to conserve your water consumption:
1. Only do full loads in dishwashers I would save about 468 gallons of water.

2. Don’t leave the hose on while washing you car you can save 4,745 gallons a year.

3. Don’t buy a decorative fountain unless if it reuses water it will save 2,920 gallons if water a year.

America’s consumption of resources:

America wastes about 410 million gallons of water a year.

Uses 20 million barrels of oil a day.

We cut down 4 billion trees for paper.

We also use about 1,800 gallons for a single pair of jeans.

A single to-go latte takes about 53 gallons of water.

We cut down 31.3 billion Christmas trees a year just to stay in our house for a month.

If you connect these facts together you can see the big picture, what we are using our resources on. We waste so much water for just a single pair of jeans and 53 gallons just for a to-go latte. As you see we need to conserve what we have before it fades away.

The nonrenewable resources we have are coal, oil, other minerals, and wood.

What are the themes of A Wrinkle in Time?

One theme is, being different and going against everybody else. In Camazots, everybody is the same, they are literally programed to act like one another. Calvin, Charles Wallace and Meg are trying to stop this to find their Father. This is the same theme in The Giver. Jonas went against everyone else to show what he believed in. Jonas thought that memories and feelings we’re good for their community. Jonas rebelled, and ran away from the community.

There is one leader, who controls everyone. This is the same in The Giver, one group of people are in charge. In The Giver the government brainwashes the community.

In A Wrinkle in Time the author contrasts light and dark. In the Giver, it’s good and evil. In Camazots, they want everything to be light and happy. So, they have one controller to make them do everything the same; the same as The Giver. In The Giver they brainwash the community so they don’t even know what  true happiness.

Acid Rain

Acid rain is a term of a mixture of wet and dry deposited material from the atmosphere. Acid rain is a very serious problem that affects large parts of the United States and Canada. Acid rain damages lakes, streams, and forests and the plants and animals that live there. What effect does acid rain have on the earth? Acid rain effects soil by washing away all of the nutrients in it. If there is not good soil, when we grow plants, there will be no nutrients in the soil. Acid Rain causes a horrible cycle. Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction that begins when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. These substances rise very high into the atmosphere, where they mix and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form acid rain.

Ocean Acidification

Ocean Acidification is the process of the ocean becoming too acidic. The ocean has been becoming more acidic it has raised 30% in the last 250  years. The ocean currently absorbing about 1/4 of all carbon emissions (pollution).

When C02 is mixed with water, Carbonic Acid is created, which puts the acid in the oceans. C02+H20=Carbonic Acid. By the end of the century, the ocean acidification will be doubled if we keep polluting. The acid dissolves seashells, which are apart in the food chain. If the animals who ate from the living things in the shells, and the shells are dissolved, the animals won’t have food. So this also affects the food chain. Fish will have nothing to eat if the Acid dissolves the shells that crabs live in. Coral Reefs are effected by Ocean Acidification also. The Coral reefs provide both shelter and food. Coral Reefs take a big part in the exchange of Oxegyn and Carbon Dioxide. When the ocean becomes too acidic, these reefs are also disintegrated. How can we prevent ocean acidification? We could make more laws to protect our environment. Since the Ocean Acidification is pollution, we should stop polluting. We could use electric cars instead of gas cars. To prevent Ocean Acidification.

1 Peter 4:10 ‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in it’s various forms.’

ACID RAIN

Acid rain is a serious environmental problem that affects large parts of the United States and Canada. Acid rain comes from wet and dry deposition from the atmosphere that has higher than normal amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids.

How can we help reduce acid rain? We can:
*carpool with friends.
When you carpool with friends you can use less cars to drive to school or events. Less cars= less pollution.
*turn of the lights, video games, ect. When you leave your house. Less energy wasted= less acidity in our rain.

Acid rain causes effects that hurt or kill individual fish, shrink fish population, or completely eliminate fish species from an ocean.

OCEAN ACIDIFICATION

Acidity and Alkaline are opposites.

The ocean takes in about a quarter of all carbon dioxide emissions, which has caused the acidity of the water to rise by 30 percent over the last 250 years.

Ocean acidification is the process of which the ocean becomes too acidic.

By the end of the century, the ocean will double in acidification.

CO2 + H2O= Carbonic acid
The acid in the oceans dissolve seashells. Some fish LIVE in seashells. Shellfish need shells to live. Some bigger populations of fish eat shellfish. They could die from hunger, and the fish that eat those fish will die TOO.

Creating marine protected areas and ending destructive fishing can make under water ecosystems stronger to help them stand ocean acidification, but ultimately, shrinking our carbon dioxide emissions is the only thing that will save our oceans.

Squids are sensitive to CO2 increases because their energy-demanding way of swimming needs a good supply of oxygen in their blood.

Lets start with ocean acidification. Ocean acidification is an ongoing decrease in the pH of the oceans. The ocean absorbs about a quarter of all carbon emissions. This caused the acidity of the ocean to rise by 30%. The number will double by 2 by 2100. The ocean acidification affects animals such as coral. Corals are very sensitive temperature change, and global warming changes water temp. could dissolve shells in the ocean, creating a interruption. But if we create marine protected areas and stop destructive fishing, then that will help stop that.

Acid rain is rain that has amounts of acid in it. It is caused when pollution, CO2, and other harmful gases are put into the air. Did you know that acid rain can slowly chip away from buildings and statues. Acid rain falls and goes into streams in rivers, which harms animals. If you look at the chart bellow, you can see which animals acid rain affects.

You would think that the frogs are more affected than other animals, but the truth is that frogs can tolerate acidic water more than trout can. And at pH 5, most fish eggs can not hatch. But there are many ways to stop acid rain- also called acid deposition. You can in in a group or even by yourself. But the first step to stopping it is understanding it. You must know what is going on and how it’s affecting the world. When you have done that, here are some ways to help stop it.

Use Alternative Energy Sources

You don’t just have to use fossil fuels to make energy. You can use hydraulic energy, wind energy , and solar energy.

Restore Damaged Environments

There are ways we can restore lakes and streams quickly. If  limestone is added to a lake or stream, it cancels out the acidity.
